The Amaze, Creeper, and Spirit are species of monsters randomly battled in Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age. These monsters, resembling wispy pale entities appearing as stereotypical ghosts, are palette-swapped variants of each other that have differing levels of power and defense and are fought in different locations in the games. In Golden Sun there are two versions of the Amaze enemy, one seen in prologue sequences and one seen afterwards in the overworld.

Amaze (Sol Sanctum)[]

Amaze

An Amaze is a variant with dark purple undertones. Statistically, this monster has 28 HP, 25 Attack, 8 Defense, 12 Agility, and 2 Luck. In terms of resistance, it has a Mercury Resistance rating of 100, a Mars Resistance rating of 72, a Venus Resistance rating of 48, and a Jupiter Resistance rating of 7, and in regards to its abilities it uses its available Venus-based attacks with a Venus power rating of 100.

This first version of the Amaze uses these battle commands:

  • Attack: Used 7 out of 8 times, this is this monster's standard physical attack.
  • Rumble: Used 1 out of 8 times, this Monster Skill has the monster generating an undulating group of orange skull-faced spirit energy that strikes into the targeted Adept as a Venus-based attack with a power rating of 9.

Felling this earlier version of the Amaze yields 3 Experience Points and 3 Coins, and there is a 1/16 chance that the monster will randomly drop an Oil Drop. This Amaze appears throughout the introductory dungeon, Sol Sanctum.

The enemies fought throughout Sol Sanctum are generally very easy and low-powered, though technically the Amaze is the strongest and most durable.

Amaze (Overworld)[]

Amaze

This identical Amaze variant, on the other hand, has 39 HP, 36 Attack, 10 Defense, 18 Agility, and 2 Luck. The same as the earlier Amaze in terms of resistance, it has a Mercury Resistance rating of 100, a Mars Resistance rating of 72, a Venus Resistance rating of 48, and a Jupiter Resistance rating of 7, and in regards to its abilities it uses its available Venus-based attacks with a Venus power rating of 100.

This second version of the Amaze uses these battle commands:

  • Attack: Used 6 out of 8 times, this is this monster's standard physical attack.
  • Rumble: Used 2 out of 8 times, this Monster Skill has the monster generating an undulating group of orange skull-faced spirit energy that strikes into the targeted Adept as a Venus-based attack with a power rating of 9.

Felling this stronger version of the Amaze yields 5 Experience Points and 6 Coins, and there is a 1/16 chance that the monster will randomly drop an Oil Drop. If it is felled by the attack effect of an offensive Jupiter Djinni, its rewards increase to 8 EXP and 8 Coins, and the chance to drop its item becomes 1/4. In Golden Sun it is battled in the region of the overworld overworld map in Angara encompassing Vale, Vault, Lunpa, and the entrance to Goma Cave. In The Lost Age it is battled in Kandorean Temple.

In its appearances in both games, it is a "stock" monster that is not any better than other monsters and is quite quickly outclassed by monsters coming up.

Creeper[]

Creeper

A Creeper is a variant with light blue undertones. Statistically, this monster has 89 HP, 6 PP, 79 Attack, 19 Defense, 29 Agility, and 2 Luck. In terms of resistance, it has a Mercury Resistance rating of 100, a Mars Resistance rating of 72, a Venus Resistance rating of 48, and a Jupiter Resistance rating of 7, and in regards to its abilities it uses its available Mercury-based attacks with a Mercury power rating of 95.

The Creeper uses these battle commands:

  • Attack: Used 6 out of 8 times, this is this monster's standard physical attack.
  • Frost: Used 1 out of 8 times, this is a Psynergy spell that drops shards of ice into the opposition, dealing a Mercury-based attack with a power rating of 20 and a range of 3. This ability consumes 5 of its user's PP, which with its meager PP rating means that it can only use either this Psynergy once in a battle or use its other Psynergy below once:
  • Douse: Used 1 out of 8 times, this is a Psynergy spell that drops spheres of water onto the opposition, dealing a Mercury-based attack with a power rating of 25 and a range of 3. This ability consumes 5 of its user's PP. Technically, the only difference between this and Frost for the Creeper is that its Mercury Power rating is 5 points higher, making it a little more damaging to the party if the Creeper ends up using Douse during battle.

Felling a Creeper yields 32 Experience Points and 38 Coins, and there is a 1/32 chance that the monster will randomly drop a Weasel's Claw. If it is felled by the attack effect of an offensive Jupiter Djinni, its rewards increase to 41 EXP and 49 Coins, and the chance to drop its item becomes 1/8. In Golden Sun it is battled in the interior portions of Tret Tree. In The Lost Age it is battled in the interior portion of Air's Rock.

In its appearance in the first game, it is generally the best balanced and relatively high in stats among the monsters in Tret Tree, with the highest Attack stat and good HP and Agility stats. In The Lost Age, however, it is the weakest and easiest of the monsters that are battled all throughout the interior portion of Air's Rock. When battling Creepers, the only thing really needed to remember is that they might do a single Psynergy spell attack if not dispatched in the first turn of battle.

Spirit[]

Spirit

A Spirit is a variant with violet-red undertones. Statistically, this monster has 116 HP, 11 PP, 114 Attack, 30 Defense, 48 Agility, and 6 Luck.

The Spirit uses these battle commands:

  • Attack: Used 4 out of 8 times, this is this monster's standard physical attack.
  • Ice: Used 2 out of 8 times, this is a Psynergy spell that shoots a mass of ice spikes down onto a target Adept, dealing a Mercury-based attack with a power rating of 35. This ability consumes 5 of its user's PP. This does sharper damage to individual Adepts than the multi-target Psynergy below:
  • Douse: Used 2 out of 8 times, this is a Psynergy spell that drops spheres of water onto the opposition, dealing a Mercury-based attack with a power rating of 25 and a range of 3. This ability consumes 5 of its user's PP.

Felling a Spirit yields 49 Experience Points and 67 Coins, and there is a 1/32 chance that the monster will randomly drop a Crystal Powder. If it is felled by the attack effect of an offensive Jupiter Djinni, its rewards increase to 63 EXP and 87 Coins, and the chance to drop its item becomes 1/8. In Golden Sun it is first battled in Fuchin Falls Cave, and subsequently in Mogall Forest and the overworld region of southeastern Angara that encompasses the exit to Mogall forest, the entrance to Lamakan Desert, and all the land in between. In The Lost Age it is first battled in the Gabomba Statue, and later in the Gabomba Catacombs.

For when it first appears in Golden Sun, it is pretty solidly balanced among the monsters in Fuchin Falls Cave, but not quite as strong as the Bone Fighter and not as fast and hard-hitting as the Dirge, and it becomes quite weaker among the other monsters in later areas. In The Lost Age, however, it is the weakest and easiest of the monsters that are battled throughout Gabomba Statue and Gabomba Catacombs. Even if Spirits are able to cast their Psynergies, they should not be all that damaging.
