The Bat, Rabid Bat, and Giant Bat are species of monsters randomly battled in Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age. These monsters, resembling tiny segmented bats, are palette-swapped variants of each other that have differing levels of power and defense and are fought in different locations in the games. In Golden Sun there are two versions of the Bat enemy, one seen in prologue sequences and one seen afterwards in the overworld.

Bat (Prologue)Edit

Bat

A Bat is a violet variant with a turquoise underbelly. Statistically, this monster has 17 HP, 21 Attack, 6 Defense, 13 Agility, and 3 Luck. In terms of resistance, it has a Venus Resistance rating of 127, a Mercury Resistance rating of 72, a Mars Resistance rating of 48, and a Jupiter Resistance rating of 7.

This first version of the Bat uses this single battle command:

  • Attack: Used 8 out of 8 times, this is this monster's standard physical attack.

Felling this earlier version of the Bat yields 1 single Experience Point and 1 single Coin, and there is a 1/32 chance that the monster will randomly drop an Herb. This Bat appears during Golden Sun's prologue sequence in Vale, then throughout the introductory dungeon, Sol Sanctum.

This is the single most basic and easy enemy to fight in the game.

Bat (Overworld)Edit

Bat

This identical Bat variant, on the other hand, has 30 HP, 30 Attack, 4 Defense, 20 Agility, and 3 Luck. The same as the earlier Bat in terms of resistance, it has a Venus Resistance rating of 127, a Mercury Resistance rating of 72, a Mars Resistance rating of 48, and a Jupiter Resistance rating of 7, and in regards to its abilities it uses its available Jupiter-based attacks with a Jupiter power rating of 110.

This second version of the Bat uses these battle commands:

  • Attack: Used 5 out of 8 times, this is this monster's standard physical attack.
  • Sonic Wave: Used 3 out of 8 times, this is a Monster Skill that launches rings of orange energy through a targeted Adept, dealing a Jupiter-based attack with a power rating of 5.

Felling this stronger version of the Bat yields 2 Experience Points and 3 Coins, and there is a 1/16 chance that the monster will randomly drop an Herb. If it is felled by the attack effect of an offensive Jupiter Djinni, its rewards increase to 4 EXP and 9 Coins, and the chance to drop its item becomes 1/4. In Golden Sun it is battled in the overworld region of Angara encompassing Vale and the entrance to Goma Cave, inside Goma Cave itself, and in the overworld region of Angara encompassing the exit to Goma Cave and Kolima Bridge far to the east.

In where it is first fightable, the Bat is still the easiest of the monsters fightable in those regions, though earlier on it has the highest Agility rating.

Rabid BatEdit

Rabid Bat

A Rabid Bat is a blue variant with a yellow underbelly. Statistically, this monster has 125 HP, 190 Attack, 34 Defense, 84 Agility, and 2 Luck. In terms of resistance, it has a Venus Resistance rating of 127, a Mercury Resistance rating of 72, a Mars Resistance rating of 48, and a Jupiter Resistance rating of 7, and in regards to its abilities it uses its available Jupiter-based attacks with a Jupiter power rating of 110 and its available Venus-based attacks with a Venus power rating of 95.

The Rabid Bat uses these battle commands:

  • Attack: Used 4 out of 8 times, this is this monster's standard physical attack.
  • Vampiric Fang: Used 2 out of 8 times, this is a Monster Skill that where a glowing red holographic image of a pair of jaws chomps at the position of a targeted Adept while energy is siphoned into the monster, dealing a Venus-based attack with a power rating of 35 and restoring the user by an amount of HP equal to the damage done.
  • Sonic Wave: Used 2 out of 8 times, this is a Monster Skill that launches rings of orange energy through a targeted Adept, dealing a Jupiter-based attack with a power rating of 45.

Felling a Rabid Bat yields 61 Experience Points and 82 Coins, and there is a 1/16 chance that the monster will randomly drop a Sleep Bomb. If it is felled by the attack effect of an offensive Jupiter Djinni, its rewards increase to 79 EXP and 106 Coins, and the chance to drop its item becomes 1/4. In Golden Sun it is first battled as parts of scripted battles in the Tolbi-bound Ship, then subsequently battled in the overworld region around Tolbi.

The Rabid Bat is about what you'd expect when you first come across it; not difficult to deal with, and weaker than other enemies you would encounter alongside it.

Giant BatEdit

Giant Bat

A Giant Bat is a blue variant with a yellow underbelly, visually identical to the Rabid Bat. Statistically, it has 32 HP, 30 Attack, 6 Defense, 22 Agility, and 1 Luck. In terms of resistance, it has a Venus Resistance rating of 127, a Mercury Resistance rating of 72, a Mars Resistance rating of 48, and a Jupiter Resistance rating of 7, and in regards to its abilities it uses its available Jupiter-based attacks with a Jupiter power rating of 110.

The Giant Bat uses these battle commands:

  • Attack: Used 5 out of 8 times, this is this monster's standard physical attack.
  • Sonic Wave: Used 3 out of 8 times, this is a Monster Skill that launches rings of orange energy through a targeted Adept, dealing a Jupiter-based attack with a power rating of 5.

Felling a Giant Bat yields 6 Experience Points and 6 Coins, and there is a 1/16 chance that the monster will randomly drop an Herb. If it is felled by the attack effect of an offensive Jupiter Djinni, its rewards increase to 10 EXP and 8 Coins, and the chance to drop its item becomes 1/4. In Golden Sun: The Lost Age it is battled in the upper overworld region of Indra, as well as throughout Kandorean Temple and Shrine of the Sea God.

Essentially, the Giant Bat is a nearly identical variation on the first game's second version of the Bat, ostensibly adjusted with the level 5 starting party of The Lost Age in mind. Obviously it is a very weak monster, though among the Punch Ants and Wild Wolves it is battled alongside, it has a good amount of higher agility.
