"Strike a foe."
DjinniMoldBattle

Mold when used in battle. Guaranteed to infuse humor into the most dramatic boss encounters.

Venus djinn Mold is a Venus Djinni found in Golden Sun: The Lost Age, and is numerically the seventeenth Venus Djinni in the games' official Djinni ordering and thus the tenth numbered Venus Djinni of The Lost Age.

Location[]

DjinniMoldOverworld

At Prox's frozen river, slide up into the visible Djinni, then slide up to the pile of snow where the Djinni ends up in, and cast Scoop.

Mold is present in Prox, found near the end of the game. First, enter the frozen, snowed-upon river and go up to the next screen under a bridge. Mold will be right in front of you; when you bump into it on the sliding ice, it will adorably slide back and get buried underneath a pile of snow. Simply slide up to where the snow is and cast Scoop to acquire Mold.

Description[]

When Set, it increases base HP by 8, base Attack by 4, base Agility by 2, and base Luck by 1.

When Mold's battle effect is used, a holographic image of a Venus Djinni briefly absorbs itself into the target, then one of two things may happen; if there is at least one other enemy to the side of the target, the target will physically attack the other enemy (which other enemy it will hit is randomly chosen if there is more than one other enemy than the target of Mold) while the battle text reports "[Enemy] attacks an ally!", and the struck enemy takes the resultant damage. Otherwise, if Mold is used on a lone enemy, the target is suddenly damaged while the battle text reports "[Enemy], stop hitting yourself!". (The mechanics of Mold certainly make it a much different sort of attack than the in-game description of “Strike a foe” would indicate.) In either case, the enemy that is physically struck is struck with a Venus-based attack equal in power to the user's normal physical attack with an additional 80 damage points.

Ability analysis[]

Mold is certainly novel (and humorous as well), and its attack is reliably targetable so long as no more than two enemies are present on the opposing side. In addition, the 80 added damage makes Mold the Djinni with the highest added damage rating of all Djinn in the series. Nonetheless, Mold is not used often because by the endgame, which this Djinni is typically collected around, attacking Djinn with damage multipliers do a lot more damage than Djinn that directly add bonus damage, and the one Venus Djinni that could be said to simply obsolete Mold far better than any other Venus Djinni as a viable attacking method is Geode, which has a 1.9x damage multiplier.

Name Origin[]

The name Mold is derived from the ability to mold clay, just as it molds the foe's mind into attacking itself. Clay is found in the earth.
