A Wooden Cap is a Hat-class headwear available in both Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age. It is sold in armor vendors at Bilibin, Kolima, Xian, and Altin in Golden Sun and at Garoh and Naribwe in The Lost Age. This hat can be equipped on all Adepts in both games, and it is Mia's initial equipment in the first game. It increases the equipped Adept's base Defense rating by 10 points. Its buy value is 400 coins and its sell value is 300 coins.
The Wooden Cap is actually not a good deal when it can first be bought because of its hefty price tag and how little money comes by at that early point in the game, but primarily because of other equipment that is sold alongside it. In Bilibin where it can first be bought, the Open Helm is also first bought there, and it practically has the same defense rating (9) but costs less than half as much as the Wooden Cap. It would be quite strong to buy two Open Helms for Isaac and Garet, and not even buy a Wooden Cap for Ivan because it is only a scant few defense points higher than his Circlet. The benefit of conserving and wisely using your limited amounts of coins is the reason why wooden caps are not so beneficial to invest in even though at that point it is, in the most technical sense, the best headgear you can have for quite a long while, all the way until you can buy Bronze Helms at Kolima and Silver Circlets at Xian.
In Golden Sun: The Lost Age, a Wooden Cap might never be bought because it can only be first bought when you go to Garoh after completing the Air's Rock dungeon and getting the Reveal Psynergy to engage in the cutscenes that will update the town and cause its vendors to be open for normal business. Meaning, you will have been able to buy a stronger Bronze Helm for Felix much earlier at Mikasalla, find the Hat artifact Nurse's Cap in a chest even earlier in the town Madra, and find the Circlet artifact Clarity Circlet in a chest in Air's Rock.
